Edible Paint - Sensory Activity!

Finding activities for kids can sometimes seem too hard, too difficult, or like it will take too much time. From one mom to another, I know that there is always a long list of things to do and never enough time to complete it. That’s why finding activities for the boys that aren’t too time consuming to set up are a BIG win for me!

I know that sensory activities are important and I absolutely LOVE arts and crafts, but at a young age, especially for children who want to put EVERYTHING in their mouths, it can be hard!

Cue the edible paint!!!

This recipe is easy and quick to make, is edible just incase your little one puts it in their mouth, and is a fun way for them to explore a new medium and new activity.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp flour (give or take)

  • 2 tbsp water (give or take)

  • your favourite colour(s) of food colouring

  1. Add your flour to a bowl

  2. Slowly add water and stir until desired consistency (a little runny is good so that they can spread the paint)

  3. Add a couple of drops of your food colouring

  4. Repeat with as many colours as you would like

Tips and Tricks

This is obviously a messy activity, so having some damp blankets/towels on standby is helpful.

Setting up the activity in a space that is okay to get messy helps! We used our play pen, removed all other toys, and put the paint and paper inside a bin that was easy to wipe out.

Don’t wear clothes that you don’t want to get messy. You may end up with some paint on yourself.

We decided to have the babies in just their diapers for easier clean up.

We hope you enjoy your Edible Paint activity!! Be sure to share your photos and tag @arianajoychristie so we can see your little ones enjoying the fun!
